Project Details
The James Street and Bakerview Road Roundabout improves one of Bellingham's key transportation corridors, enhancing safety, traffic flow, and connectivity for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Designed to modernize a heavily traveled intersection, the project replaced traditional traffic controls with a roundabout that improves vehicle circulation while creating safer, more efficient movement throughout the corridor. New sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and roadway improvements strengthen access for all users and support the city's ongoing investment in safe, multimodal transportation infrastructure.
Construction included extensive roadway reconstruction, stormwater facilities, retaining wall improvements, utility coordination, and the installation of new pedestrian infrastructure throughout the intersection. Careful sequencing and traffic management were essential to maintaining access while work progressed in a busy urban environment. The completed project delivers long-term operational benefits, improves corridor safety, and provides a durable transportation solution that will serve the Bellingham community for decades to come.
