Construction is underway on a new 18,000-square-foot Lynden Ice manufacturing plant, a modern facility designed to meet updated health department regulations while incorporating state-of-the-art automation and efficient construction techniques. The project contracted out to Faber Construction, began in March and is slated for completion by the end of August.
The new facility will significantly improve the sanitation and efficiency of Lynden Ice’s operations by utilizing automated elements in the ice production process. Though not fully automated, the system is designed to reduce human contact with the product, aligning with stringent health and safety standards.
A standout feature of the project is its unique pre-engineered metal building design. The structure employs an exoskeleton framework, placing the support structure on the exterior of the freezer space, making it a distinctive architectural feature for the Lynden community. Additionally, the building is designed with sustainability in mind, including future compatibility with rooftop solar panels.
The facility will house six dedicated truck bays to streamline distribution and ensure faster, more efficient loading. Construction teams are currently completing underground mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with the first concrete slab scheduled for casting this week. Building erection is expected to begin within the next three weeks.
“We’re excited to be part of such a forward thinking project,” said Eric Oettel, Faber Project Manager. “It’s not just about building a new plant, it’s about supporting the future of clean, efficient manufacturing in our region. And working with such responsive and involved owners has truly been a highlight.”
The impact on the surrounding community has been minimal, with only a single-day road closure needed earlier in the project for water line installation. The finished facility is expected to be a striking addition to the Lynden industrial landscape.
